my friends and i are working on building a boat but i started thinking

you said there's forest spirits, but have you seen water spirits too?

actually i'm not sure if that's important so i wasn't supposed to leave a message i know you're busy

Why are you building a boat?

ohhhh ok i think i get it

but where do the spirits come from? have they always been here? or were they like us once? i guess i just thought maybe we're different cause we have lanterns. people back home used to light candles when somebody passed away... anyway!

we're building a boat cause it's faster to look around on water than just walking everywhere. every world i've ever seen was much bigger than it looked the first time

but i don't wanna bother any spirits along the way if they're living there or something

I don't know where they came from. They have always been here far as I know. We are different though. You're right about that.

This world is much bigger than just this town. That's true. Thing is though there isn't much worth finding out there. Just trouble.
If you go too deep into the woods the forest spirits will get territorial. Same goes for the forest spirits in the water too.
How much do you know about boat building and sailing?

we're gonna head west for awhile to map out the coast. i thought checking out the river would probably just be easier on foot, just following it? but maybe that part is for another day...

mnnn i guess if i think about it getting territorial makes sense. id be pretty mad if people kept barging into my house too.

but i'm from an island! i've built boats and rafts before, and we've been sailing those for as long as I can remember. and the after that it was a different kind of ship...

As far as I know the lake is safer than the river but that's no guarantee you won't run into trouble. If you die out there it will be difficult to retrieve your lantern so it can be fixed. Be very very careful.
That's good that you have experience. Sailing on that lake will be more like sailing on an ocean. I wouldn't go too far with just a raft. I wouldn't go too far at all if I'm being honest but if you're sure you know what you're doing I won't stop you. Good luck.

if it's dangerous in the lake and if it's dangerous in the woods

then isn't the lighthouse keeper in danger too?

Say a group of people wanted to trek to the lighthouse.

Why shouldn't they?

Short answer is you'll die.
The forest spirits protect that place something fierce. Cross that fence they put up and you're asking for trouble. They won't let you get near the thing without one hell of a fight.
Why do you want to go to the lighthouse?

Why do they defend it? What do they want? If they were just defending their forest I would understand but I don't see the point behind them defending the lighthouse peninsula in particular unless the place holds some sort of meaning for them.

They defend it because it's their job I think. Everyone's got a role here and they aren't an exception. They've got some sort of special connection with the lighthouse.
The only thing they want though is to keep us away from it. Couldn't tell you why. Maybe to keep the keeper locked up there by herself.
Anyhow you and me both. But whatever burning questions you've got for her can wait until we reestablish a network connection for her.
That's something I'm working on by the way. If you're so keen on going to the lighthouse keep an eye out for a network post I'm putting up once I've squared some things away.

Hi Winters! It's Daylight!

I wanted to wait for things to settle done to ask you about this but is it possible for me to get an extra tablet? If I have to pay for it or something, I'll do it and then some! I know this is kind of weird to ask but I just want to give one to the Postmaster General at the post office. I think they would like to communicate with us!

That's very kind of you but they can't much read or write. Or talk. At least not in any language we can understand. What does it want with a tablet?
Will is the one to ask about an extra tablet. I think he has some spares.

Yeah! We kind of talked for a bit and they didn't say no to the idea of us contacting them and stuff. They only mimicked that they couldn't because they had no way to do so. Why not change that? We have the drawing app up now so maybe they can draw with us and we can learn how to communicate with them better.

And oh! Good idea! I'll ask Dr. Ingram for help. I'll let you know how it goes. :D

So since they picked up the phone when I said they could hit me up, I like to think it means they understand there are ways to contact us! They just, you know, don't have it right now.

Why not give it a shot? They're helping us and maybe they need our help in the future! We all gotta work together while we're here, right?
