As far as I know the lake is safer than the river but that's no guarantee you won't run into trouble. If you die out there it will be difficult to retrieve your lantern so it can be fixed. Be very very careful. That's good that you have experience. Sailing on that lake will be more like sailing on an ocean. I wouldn't go too far with just a raft.
