In the Night Beta Tester Sandbox

Hello, beta testers, and thank you again for offering to help vet, proofread, and test run our game! Feel free to use this open post as a sandbox/TDM of sorts to collect tag samples for your example application. We'll also be using this post to voicetest and practice donning our NPC hats before the game officially goes public, so again, we appreciate your help in this.

We do ask that, if you're planning to app your example app character for realsies, you update your real app with thread samples from the official TDM once it goes up on June 15. Thank you!

[Once he's safely out of the way, a large, shimmering, translucent copy of her hand appears in the air in front of her. When she moves her hand, it mimics her, and it's easy enough to lift the bed and set it out in the hallway.]

[He watches the display with a slightly raised eyebrow.]

Right, I forgot that some of you still have your mystical talents. While you're at it, would you mind getting rid of the dresser, too?

[Listen he's gonna take advantage of this as long as she's sticking around.]

Sure. Does this make us BFFs?

[Don't worry, Will, she's totally kidding.]

It doesn't, actually.

[He isn't.]

Though now that you've solved that particular problem so quickly, I'm not sure what to do with the rest of my day.

[Such as it is, anyway.]

[With another wave of her hand, Kyna shoves the dresser out of the room, too.]

I don't know, I'm new. What do dead people do?

Mostly we try not to die again.

[Which, apparently, most people aren't very good at.]

But if you've already accomplished that much, you can drink heavily, desperately attempt to connect to your fellow dead people, or stare endlessly into the horrifying question of your own continued existence. So many choices, the freedom truly is yours.

[evocation]

Oh, god. You're dramatic and depressing.

Listen, if you want a stirring speech, you're going to have to talk to Winters. You still won't get one, probably, but it'll at least be entertaining to see him try. In actual answer to your question, most people around here spend their time moping before eventually going out to brave the wilderness. Though I wasn't lying about the drinking heavily part.

Yeah, I can already tell he sucks at cheering people up. I'll take you up on the drinking thing.

[Did he actually invite her? Nope. Does she care? Nope.]

I didn't realize I was making an offer.

[But he isn't saying no.]

I suppose I don't have anything better to do.

[He'll go ahead and lead the way because ladies first is dumb.]

[Yeah, it's totally dumb, so Kyna just follows with no offense taken. It's not like she's big on manners anyway.]

Is that all you guys do around here?

I spend a lot of my time trying to make something useful happen with the crude, 21st-century technology this place has seen fit to give us. I won't pretend to know, or care, what everyone else gets up to, but I would imagine it involves a lot of feeling sorry for themselves.

[It's like they're all depressed they're dead or something. Imagine that.]

I think the goal for most of us is trying to make this place livable again. I've heard talk before of trying to get back, but back to what, exactly?

[Kyna reaches up instinctively to fidget with her necklace, clearly uncomfortable.]

I don't know. Where I'm from, there are ways of coming back to life.

[Will stops at the bottom of the stairs and looks up at her pointedly.]

[He's not bitter you're bitter. He makes his way to the bar and sits without looking back again.]
